Lighting refurbishment offers enormous potential and makes sense both economically and ecologically, and this was showcased in our most recent car park project.
Whilst most of Sydney was stuck inside during the recent lockdown, the Light Culture factory was flat-out building Trilux Oleveon Plus fittings for Westfield underground car parks for fit-out across NSW. Westfield Penrith was the first project from this Energy Savings rollout to be realised. Light Culture partnered with Energy Conservation and NIE Electrical to provide a complete turnkey solution, packaging together the luminaires, government rebates, new fitting installation, and disposal of the existing fixtures.
The luminaire used was the Trilux Oleveon Plus, which is made locally in the Light Culture factory in Somersby, NSW. With a 10-year warranty and one of the highest efficacies of any batten available on the market, the Oleveon was the perfect solution. By using the latest LED technology, the Oleveon was able to replace 1x36W fluorescent fixtures with only 23W of power – thus immediately reducing power consumption by nearly 50%. In addition to this, the new Trilux Oleveon fittings employ motion sensors to allow them to fade down to a dimmed state after a programmed period. These luminaires also automatically begin life with reduced output and ramp up over their lifetime to counteract their maintenance factor and maximise energy savings even further.
The first and foremost requirement for any car park is to achieve the 40 lux average requirement recommended by AS1680. However, with the Oleveon’s deeper diffuser, a wider spread of light is created for better uniformity and provides more illumination onto the ceiling – critical for achieving a higher ‘perceived brightness’ in the car park.
The overall outcome is a brighter and safer feeling car park using a fraction of the power of the existing fittings, and with the government rebates realised by the project, it was supplied and installed for a fraction of the cost of conventional car park lighting.
