ENHANCING NATURAL ENVIRONMENTS THROUGH LIGHT EFFICIENCY

In the pursuit of harmonising artificial illumination with the serenity of natural environments, BEGA developed their series of “Dark Sky” exterior luminaires. These luminaires are meticulously designed to illuminate outdoor spaces with utmost efficiency while minimising light pollution. This range not only enhances visual comfort but also aligns with BEGA and Light Culture’s commitment to reducing light pollution and reducing our impact on the environment on a global scale.

Directing Light with Precision

The hallmark of BEGA’s Dark Sky luminaires lies in their ability to focus light precisely where it is needed. By employing advanced optical technology, these luminaires direct light with unparalleled efficiency onto the target area, ensuring minimal wastage and maximum utilisation. Crucially, the Dark Sky luminaires emit less than 1% of their luminous flux into the upper half-space of the fixture. This achievement is a testament to BEGA’s commitment to responsible lighting practices and their dedication to creating luminaires that balance functionality with environmental consciousness.

Technical Specifications at Your Fingertips

BEGA data sheets for these Dark Sky luminaires all include exact data on the percentage of luminous flux emitted into the upper half-space, while also featuring essential information like the BUG rating according to IES TM-15-07 and the CEN Flux Code in compliance with EN 13032-2.

BUG rating according to IES TM‑15‑07

Understanding the technical jargon is vital when evaluating lighting solutions. The BUG rating, which stands for Backlight, Uplight, and Glare, serves as a standardised metric for assessing the impact of luminaires on the surrounding environment. This system rates each luminaire’s luminous flux based on these parameters, providing a clear classification from low to high. It’s crucial to cross-reference this value with local regulations to ensure compliance.

B: backlight – the light behind the luminaire
U: uplight – the light above the luminaire
G: glare – glare factor

CEN Flux Code according to EN 13032‑2

The CEN Flux Code, on the other hand, quantifies the percentage of luminous flux emitted upwards and downwards in specific solid angles. This code, as per EN 13032-2, outlines the distribution of light and its potential effects on the night sky. By adhering to these codes, BEGA’s Dark Sky luminaires uphold the principles of responsible lighting, making them an ideal choice fo r outdoor spaces where minimising light pollution is a priority.
