With the upcoming Australian Made Week running from 6th-12th June, we at Light Culture thought it timely to post an update on what it means to us to be a certified Australian Made manufacturer.

With recent and current international events highlighting the importance of having local manufacturers, it’s created more of an awareness and desire by industry and consumers to support those Australian manufacturers brave enough to stick their neck out and “Have a Go”. Research by Roy Morgan found that 89% of Australians believe more manufacturing should be undertaken in Australia with a further 93% of Australians preferring to buy products made in Australia.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR LIGHT CULTURE?

For the most part, it instils a great sense of pride in our staff at all levels that we are a 100% Australian owned manufacturer. Through this, we are able to support local industry and importantly provide jobs directly within the business with up to 40 staff and also indirectly via local businesses where we use their raw products or manufacturing support.

At Light Culture although we are proud that we are able to import the highest quality products, we get a great sense of satisfaction that when we see a gap in the market we can quickly support our clients in completing their projects through the control over luminaire designs, responsive to lead times, extremely high local standards and requirements for our products along with outstanding engineering innovations done in-house like our Beyond Vision-enabled technology to meet WELL Standard requirements. It’s a great compliment to the premium international brands that we represent, BEGA Germany, Trilux Germany and Panzeri from Italy all sharing parallel philosophies in quality in design, manufacture and the strong desire to produce long-lasting durable luminaires.

Over the last year we have been focused on improving the factory’s manufacturing capabilities;

• Installation of state of the art machinery
• Increase manufacturing efficiencies through improved processes and tools
• Upskilling of our valued production staff
• Added flexibility to our R&D capabilities
• Improved capabilities to accommodate specials, ie luminaires to suit unique suspended ceiling grids

Whilst this investment in machinery and training was a considerable investment for Light Culture it cemented our commitment to Australian made.

QUALITY

Designing and manufacturing our own luminaires allows us control over the quality of the products, ensuring compliance with AS/NZS 60598, which in short, is testing for functionality and electrical safety. We know that every product that leaves our factory is safe and works to the highest standards.

We are also finalising our ISO 9001 accreditation which sets out the criteria for a Quality Management system and is administered by the International Organisation for Standardisation and utilised by over 1 million companies in 170 countries around the world.

The confidence we have in our locally made products underpins the extended warranties offered by Light Culture, no caveats no worries!

ENVIRONMENT

In step with one of our core beliefs at Light Culture is that we have an enormous obligation to our environment and have implemented a number of policies that we believe contribute to reducing our impact on the environment. The design, labelling and packaging materials used by Light Culture need to meet consumer and market needs, but also have minimal impact on the environment throughout their lifecycle.

In summary, supporting Australian made makes so much sense and offers flow through to more than just a single enterprise. If we can shift our focus from purely price-driven and look a little deeper into the positives it adds to our economy and beyond. When you buy Australian, you are supporting Australia by creating jobs and economic activity while enjoying products made to some of the world’s highest standards.
